Local-first photo triage for iPhone

We suggest. You decide.

Photo Triage is an iPhone app for similar and exact duplicate photo decisions, not a broad phone cleaner. It groups photos on your device, points at the shot worth keeping, and waits for your confirmation before anything is deleted.

One loop. Three steps.

The whole product is a single decision loop, and you own the last step of it.

  1. Scan on device

Grant Photos access, full or limited. Exact matches and similar groups are found on your iPhone using Apple's Photos and Vision frameworks.

  2. Review the suggestion

Each group opens with a suggested keep based on Favorites first, then on-device sharpness and face signals. Long-press any photo to Make Suggested Keep when you disagree.

  3. Confirm the delete

Nothing is removed until you confirm. Deletions go through Apple Photos into Recently Deleted, so a mistake is still recoverable.

How Photo Triage compares

Why on-device photo triage is fundamentally different from generic phone cleaner utilities.

CapabilityPhoto TriageGeneric Cleaner Apps
Photo Processing100% on your iPhone via Apple Vision and PhotoKit; zero server-side analysis.Frequently uploads thumbnails, image features, or metadata to remote servers.
Pricing & BillingFree scan (recent 1,000 photos) + optional one-time Lifetime unlock. Zero subscriptions.Aggressive recurring weekly subscriptions ($6.99–$9.99/week) with short trial traps.
Deletion SafetyTwo-step confirmation; confirmed removals land in Apple Photos Recently Deleted for 30 days.Auto-check-all defaults or aggressive bulk purges that risk losing irreplaceable memories.
Privacy & SDKsZero third-party SDKs, zero analytics, zero ad networks, and no user account required.Packed with cross-app ad trackers, user profiling SDKs, and mandatory sign-ins.
Product FocusLaser-focused decision loop for similar and exact duplicate photos; not a broad phone cleaner.Bloated utility suites bundling contact compressors, battery monitors, and spam cleaners.

Photo Triage provides a narrow, privacy-first decision tool. Removals always require your explicit confirmation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, verifiable answers about privacy, on-device analysis, and photo deletion safety.

Does Photo Triage upload my photos to any server or cloud backend?

No. Photo Triage operates with zero photo upload backend and zero server-side analysis. All similarity grouping, facial detection, and thumbnail sharpness scoring run entirely on your iPhone using Apple's native Photos and Vision frameworks. Your photos never leave your device.

How does Photo Triage choose which photo in a group to suggest keeping?

Each group opens with a suggested keep frame. The algorithm prioritizes your existing system Favorites first. For remaining photos, on-device heuristics evaluate image sharpness and facial saliency to suggest the clearest shot. If you disagree, long-press any photo to make it the suggested keep. The user always decides.

Can I recover photos if I accidentally confirm a deletion?

Yes. Deletions are executed strictly through Apple Photos system APIs. Confirmed removals land in your iPhone's Recently Deleted album, where Apple retains them for 30 days before permanent deletion. You can restore any photo from Recently Deleted at any time.

Is Photo Triage free or does it require a recurring subscription?

Photo Triage is free to download and scan your most recent 1,000 photos, including 3 group cleanups per day. To remove cleanup limits, a one-time Lifetime purchase is available via Apple In-App Purchase. We do not charge weekly, monthly, or annual recurring subscriptions.

Does Photo Triage work offline without an internet connection?

Yes. Photo Triage contains no third-party networking libraries, no ad SDKs, and no tracking scripts. All duplicate detection and photo triage features operate completely offline, including in Airplane Mode.

How does Photo Triage differ from the built-in Apple Photos Duplicates album?

Apple Photos' built-in Duplicates album only identifies exact or near-identical file matches. Photo Triage identifies similar photos—such as rapid burst shots, multiple takes, and slight angle variations—and provides a fast triage interface with sharpness hints so you can keep the best frame and reclaim storage.
